About
Liz Carter
Born
in Somerset, England my own family were spread all over England
and tracing their history has been, and still is, a fascinating
pastime. They came from a wide variety of backgrounds including
tradesmen and farmers as well as a good sprinkling of agricultural
labourers - all with varying religious persuasions. I rapidly
realised that family history is so much more than just dates
– local and social history knowledge are vital ingredients
for a rounded family history.
As well as a full-time genealogist, I also a lecture on genealogy,
local and social history for the University of Cambridge, Institute
of Continued Education, local colleges and the WEA. I am a member
of the Higher Education Academy, the Society of Genealogists,
I write for Practical Family History magazine and have published
two books on family and local history.
My present-day family are West-Country based. Amongst my interests,
apart from family and local history, are photography, travel,
reading and hill-walking in Scotland.
